The key to success with hypermobility is stability

Symbiotic Physical Therapy specializes in hypermobility disorders such as Hypermobility Spectrum disorder (HSD) and Ehler Danlos syndrome (EDS). Whether you have officially been diagnosed with a genetic condition or struggle with excess mobility, our stabilization program is right for you. Physical therapy for hypermobility begins with a thorough assessment, both subjective and objective. No two patients are the same, so we focus on the individual. The information that is gathered from the assessment is used to create an individualized program that is right for you.

Our 4 Step approach to managing symptoms through exercise:
1
LEARN HOW TO EXIST IN NEUTRAL

Neutral posture is a position that is reached when your spine is straight, and your pelvis, rib cage, and neck are in alignment. Existing in neutral, prepares your body for optimal movement, allows for proper breathing, decreases muscle tightness, pain, and joint strain. You can reach neutral through performing stabilizing exercises that isolate the deep stabilizers throughout the trunk and neck.

2
STRENGTHEN THE SUPPORTING MUSCLES

Strengthen the stabilizing muscles that support the larger muscles involved in bigger movements. Stabilizing muscles are the most important muscles for supporting and holding their body upright. When their stabilizers are weak, they are not equipped to handle unpredictable movements or situations, which often result in injury.

3
MAKE IT FUNCTIONAL

Personal goals are used to create an individualized program, and exercises begin to look like real life movements.

4
MAINTAIN GOALS

Regular exercise is needed to maintain function, strength gains, and keep their body out of pain. Be sure to have a clear plan and manageable exercise program that they will be able to stick to.

PELVIC FLOOR THERAPY:THE MISSING LINK

Pelvic floor physical therapy is often the missing piece to total body rehabilitation, especially with hypermobility. During a pelvic floor evaluation, we perform a detailed assessment of pelvic floor function and its ability to work with the collective core musculature. We assess for pelvic floor strength, endurance, tenderness to palpation and tone as well as prolapse, diastasis recti, breath mechanics and deep abdominal/diaphragm function. After a thorough evaluation, we develop a plan of care specific to the patient’s needs, including ample education and a home exercise program. Through consistency and repetition, we are able to work toward achieving each person’s goals.
